TR Smith | Biography

Timothy R. Smith is perhaps best known for his versatile musical styles and his keyboard wizardry. A gifted songwriter and long-time music minister, he crafts songs that really work for prayer and liturgy and make great listening.

He has performed extensively with his band, TR Smith & The Sacred Music Boys. Based in the Detroit area, this talented group mixes rock, blues and pop for a gripping, hard-hitting Motor City sound.

TR's work with the Boys culminated in the May 2006 release of Persuaded, his sixth CD. Springing from his musical and faith experience, this heart-felt song cycle tells the story of our common journey toward God: from fear to faith, from doubt to trust, from pride to surrender.

TR has traveled throughout the country teaching parishes about their role as ministers of music. Some of Tim’s best-known songs are "Voice of Christ," "Angels Come in Celebration," "O Mother of Jesus" and "In Every Age." Highly regarded for his contemporary psalm settings—many of which are in both volumes of Spirit & Song—TR has three other collections: Praise the Name, With the Lord and Blessed Assurance.

He has a bachelor of music from Michigan State University and master of music from Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Michigan. He and his wife, Kim, live in Michigan with their three children.
